What is the patient's compensation fund?

The Patients Compensation Fund compensates victims of medical malpractice. Under the Indiana Medical Malpractice Act, the defendant-doctor and his insurance company are responsible for the first $250,000 of damages. Damages over $250,000 are paid by the Fund. The money comes from a surcharge on Healthcare Provider's malpractice insurance premiums.
